My Cat
It's just a simple portrait of my cat Leo. His Vietnamese name translated to English means bean, hence the green bean on the right.
Dissected Capsicums
The idea of this artwork came to me when my mom was cooking with capsicums. The style I was going for was a bit pop-art as I used a lot of white for highlight. The disheveled background was an impulsive move done by scraping dark blue paint using a palette knife.

Starry Night Remake
I had to do a copy piece of an artist, so being a basic person I just decided to go for Van Gogh's Starry Night. I like his work a lot and I think this was good practice for the impasto technique.

Be An Astronaut
This drawing is a painting of Declan Mckenna based on his song "Be An astronaut" on his 2020 album "Zeros" (go listen to it it's an amazing album). I've always planned on making an artwork based on Declan, so I chose this song because of its context.

I used Posca pains mainly to color block the shadows and highlights, then went over it with acrylic to cover larger areas. I painted the background blue to contrast with the orange tone of the astronaut as well as to mimic the sky.

Spirited Away No-Face
After rewatching Spirited Away for the millionth time, I decided to paint this exact bathhouse scene where No-Face is in the tub and the workers are holding up food for him. I like this scene a lot because of the colour combinations, and it was just aesthetically pleasing overall. This piece was time-consuming and it took me a couple of days as I had to patiently layer the watercolours to enhance minor details.

Self Portrait
I had the idea of drawing my face with buttons sewn into it when I saw an Instagram post of someone with pearl beads glued all over their's. This painting is supposed to be implicitly triggering as piercing the skin with needles is unsettling. I drew my hands holding my head with black/grey for no reason but there's probably an explanation somewhere.
Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind
This is my favourite romance movie because it's sort of unconventional and raw. The painting on the left is a scene where Joel and Clementine were lying in bed, and at this moment she realizes that their relationship is falling apart. It is unfinished but I decided to keep it that way.
The painting on the right was an assignment for my art class where we had to redesign a movie poster. The main aspect I included was the cassette and the love interests being surrounded by the ink ribbon. I copied the original poster which used the scene where Joel and Clementine were lying on the ice and staring up at the night sky. It was a really heartfelt scene so I had to use it.

My Cat pt.2

It's pretty obvious I love my cat at this point. My bookshelf is the background, and I went with Blue and Purple as it contrasts the Brown/peach colour of my cat's fur.

Self Portrait pt.2
I drew this self-portrait by copying my reflection in the mirror after a week of being sleep deprived, so my expression looked like death. I scribbled colours and random designs using a black marker to portray my brain going haywire.
Abstract dump

Untitled
At first glance, these seem are 2 artworks done on different pages and have entirely opposite contexts. Actually, they are related based on the fact that they're different. I painted these simultaneously in a way to represent how my mood can swing from one end of the spectrum to the other. The spiral artwork on the left was done using gouache using wet on wet to make the colors blend and overlap. For the artwork on the right, I slathered some red and black paint onto the page and made scratch marks using a plastic fork as well as a palette knife.

Psychedelic Alphabet Soup

I got new gouache colors so I wanted to test them out, so the best method was to have all of them be used on one artwork. I had also got a new purple pen so I randomly started scribbling the alphabet, then decided to layer the paint on top.
